A retired professor who has a strong bond with the popular college donated one million dollars to fund a Foucault pendulum, which is a device that demonstrates the Earth in rotation. Officials are excited for the new pendulum as it will be the only one of its kind in Orange County. The professor’s name is Mary McChesney who retired from OCC in 1983. She is looking forward to the new center and states that it will be a “center of scientific studies for college students as well as the surrounding community.” The 91-year-old professor is looking forward to the finished structure and the promising future it will provide for many.
